Swimming Pool Drain Recall Information

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with certain drain cover manufacturers, announced a voluntary recall of about 1 million drain covers manufactured and installed after December 2008. According to the CPSC, the recalled drain covers were incorrectly rated by independent third party laboratories to handle the flow of water through the cover as specified by VGBA.

Drain Recall Procedure

The procedure is for the homeowner to contact the CPSC hotline or website. The CSPC toll free drain recall number is 866-478-3521. Service guys should not be replacing covers until the homeowner calls the drain recall hotline – they will not be reimbursed if prior approval has not been given. APSP.org and CPSC.gov have a lot of useful information for builders, service techs and especially homeowners.
